Carbon Fibre Plank
–
Made of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), it is strong, lightweight material that provides excellent stiffness and fatigue resistance. They offer higher performance as they can withstand higher loads and offer great design flexibility, allowing for longer and more efficient wind turbine blades.
Glass Fibre Plank
–
Made of Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP), it is strong, lightweight material with excellent mechanical properties, low cost, and ease of manufacturing. They are commonly used in smaller wind turbine blades or in the inner portion of large wind turbine blades. They are high resistance to corrosion and environmental degradation.
WinSpar
WinSpar (Pultruded profile) is a structural component used in wind turbine blades to provide stiffness and strength. They are typically made of composite material, such as fibreglass or carbon fibre, and run along the length of the blade near its leading edge. Pultruded profiles resist bending and twisting forces, which are common in wind turbine blades due to the aerodynamic loads they experience. Without the spar cap, the blade would be more flexible and prone to fatigue and failure over time.
Key Properties
High tensile strength
Reduced mould occupancy time.
High strength-to-weight ratio.
Reduced fibre undulation or air bubbles.
Reduce overall weight to length and increase blade stiffness.
